The Jews call this place Nimrod's Fortress in memory of Nimrod, the biblical king who, according to tradition, lived in these parts: "Cush also begat Nimrod; he began to be a mighty man on the earth; he was a mighty hunter before the Lord [God]. Therefore it is said, 'A mighty hunter like Nimrod before the Lord [God].'" (Gen. 10:8-9)
