What's a recommendation?
A recommendation is essentially nothing more than a way to evaluate a photo. Moreover, giving a recommendation to a photo is the main factor influencing the rating of a particular author and the rating of the photo itself (its chances of making it to the top). Unlike rating a photo on a ten-point scale, a recommendation cannot be cancelled. Thus, a recommendation is an impulsive expression of one's attitude towards a photo. By giving a recommendation, a person is, in effect, saying that this photo did not leave them indifferent and that they recommend it for viewing by other users of the site. A recommendation has a so-called "weight". The weight of a recommendation depends directly on the author's rating. Thus, an author with the maximum rating will have the maximum recommendation "weight" — in other words, such a recommendation is the most valuable. Conversely, the recommendation "weight" of a newly registered author is minimal. The recommendation "weight" also depends on the number of mutual recommendations given to each other by authors. A photo's rating is built from the combined "weights" of the recommendations the photo has received.
How do I recommend a photo?
To do this, you need to log in to the site with your login and password, or create a new account on the site by following the "Registration" link, agreeing to the site's terms of use and filling in the registration form. After that, select the photo you wish to recommend for viewing. On the photo's page, click the "Recommend" button located beneath the photo.
What's a photo rating?
A photo's rating is a measure of how the community evaluates your photo. It is formed from the combined "weights" of the recommendations of the authors who recommended your photo. Various TOPs are formed based on photo ratings, and the photo of the day is selected.
How is the author rating calculated?
The author rating is calculated using a complex formula and depends on the number of photos you have uploaded, the number of recommendations your photos have received, and the "weight" of those recommendations. We deliberately do not disclose the exact formula for calculating the author rating in order to avoid manipulation aimed at changing it. The higher an author's rating, the higher the "weight" of their recommendation; for a newly registered author the recommendation "weight" is minimal (we do not disclose the exact coefficients). In this way we make life as difficult as possible for unscrupulous authors who want to artificially inflate (rig) their rating using several logins, thereby making the process of selecting the best photos more objective.
Why has my rating dropped?
Since the author rating depends not only on the number of uploaded photos but also on the arithmetic mean of the ratings of all photos, the author rating can not only increase but also decrease slightly if your latest photos receive a lower rating than the previous ones. At the same time, the number of photos you have uploaded also affects the change in the author rating. The more photos you have uploaded, the greater the coefficient for increasing the author rating.
Where did my recommendations go? Why was my photo moved to the "Family album" category?
Photos are moved to the "Family album" category as a result of voting by our users. When a photo is moved to "Family album", all recommendations are removed and the photo's rating is reset to zero. This move happens automatically once the sum of the vote weights cast for "Family album" exceeds the photo's rating over the course of several hours. Users with a rating of more than 2 points can vote to move a photo to "Family album".
How are the Photos of the Day determined?
Every 15 minutes the 2 highest-rated photos of the last 24 hours are determined. The first photo of the day is selected from the categories: "People", "Wedding Photography" and the subcategories: "Genre Photography", "Macro Photography — Man", "Reportage — People", "Reportage — Sports", "Reportage — Politics", "Reportage — Military", "Reportage — Documentary Photography". The second photo of the day is selected from all the other remaining categories. In this way two "Photos of the Day" are determined, one of which usually depicts a person, while the second usually does not.
How many photos can I submit?
7 photos per week, or according to your account type.
How do I upload a photo?
To do this, you need to create a new account on the site by following the "Registration" link, agreeing to the site's terms of use and filling in the registration form. Then follow the "Upload photo" link located on the left above the "User menu" block. Next, fill in the upload form, specify the file on your computer that you want to add to the site using the "Browse" button, and click the "Upload photo" button. After that, your photo will be added to the site and displayed on the front page in the "Latest uploaded photos" section.
What are the maximum allowed photo sizes?
When uploading a photo to the site, there is only one restriction — the size of your photo must not exceed 50 MB. The width and height of the original image you upload can be as large as you like; however, after being uploaded to the site it will be reduced by its maximum dimension and, when displayed on the site, will not exceed 1400 pixels in width and 1400 pixels in height. If your photo exceeds 800 KB in file size (1600 KB for panoramas), it will be automatically compressed to 800 KB (1600 KB). For "Panorama" categories there are no width or height restrictions, as long as the file size does not exceed 1600 KB.
Why can't I upload a photo?
Make sure your photo does not exceed 50 MB and make sure the photo you are uploading really is a JPG file. Sometimes there are also problems uploading a photo due to corrupted graphic file signatures. If your photo will not upload, try opening it and saving it again in some graphics editing program.
Can I replace a previously uploaded photo?
Unfortunately, a previously uploaded photo cannot be replaced. When a photo is replaced, previously written messages may lose their meaning. As a solution, you can delete the recently added photo and upload a new one. In this case all messages written under the deleted photo are lost.

To do this, you need to log in to the site with your email and password and follow the "e-mail password" link located in the "User menu" block. Change your password, username or email address and click the "Save data" button.
I forgot my password and can't recover it. What should I do?
First of all, try to use the password recovery function on the "Password recovery" page. If you did not receive the email with the new password, try looking for it in your SPAM folder. The thing is, these emails are sent automatically and sometimes mail services treat such messages as spam, thus trying to protect you from them.
I uploaded a photo to the wrong category by mistake. How do I change the category?
To do this, you need to log in to the site with your login and password. Find the "User menu" section in the left menu, click the "My photos" link, select the photo whose category you wish to change, and click the "Change category" link.
