The boy's serious, adult gaze is unchildlike! It's hard to see unhappy children! He might be upset that he doesn't have money to buy a toy. Or maybe he's just hungry.
Marat Max, I think the boy was just lost in thought. Thinking people, as a rule, always have a sad look.
